I am considering going electronic, however, reading recent threads on this subject seem to indicate that whichever system is used ie. optical or hall
effect, the 6volt coil will have to go and the ballast wire bypassed for a 12 volt supply. Is this correct? Does any system purely replace the points only
(Magnetronic?) and so enable the original coil and ballast system to be retained? The group experience in this area would be appreciated.
BTW have you checked out the 'distributor less ignition system' discussion on the Totally Triumph Network site!

In the absence of any comment to this thread, I have delved into the archives and decided to go for the Pertronix (Aldon) Ignitor Hall- effect system
for my Spitfire 1500. (kit no. LU 143) By adding a new 12volt supply for the ignitor I am able to retain the original ballast 6volt coil with minimal
disruption to the wiring layout. Because of the current exchange rate I purchased the American Pertronix system over the internet for the equivalent of
&163;42 and received it from their UK warehouse within 3 days! This is amazing value when you see what the Aldon Ignitor is priced at in the UK
(&163;75). How long will the company allow this anomaly to exist? I suggest you buy NOW while the window of opportunity still exists.
