Well the obvious thing when fitting new stuff which doesn't work is to put the old stuff back on and then work out which bit isn't working by a process
of elimination.
However the parts you have replaced should not affect the starter motor etc.
I suspect that in fitting the coil you may have disturbed one of the connections on the solenoid.

Bang on the nail Doug!
Just checked everything again, and with the help of a more knowledgable friend, I'd put one of the connectors back on the solenoid in the wrong place!! I'll learn.
All is fine now, thanks for your help. Also nice to see another Inca 78 user on the board.

No worries - I'll have to go out and celebrate getting something right
