although i myself have not seen this conversion in place before, having grown up with a plethora of cars around me all shapes and sizes (my father
being a mechanic) an austin maestro would be the last place i would look for an ignition system.
dont get me wrong i know this was a ground breaking bit of kit, respect is due, but like alot of these sort of things it is well known to have been
rushed through the development, this has meant that alot of them were not greatly reliable,
this is due to a fault within the contol box which i believe to replace are in the hundreds of pounds.
obviously there are still cars driving around with this system so at some point they must have rectified the situation its just trying to find one
that is sorted out that may be the problem. any way its your choice, but id either spend the £70 on a kit or fit new points ect.
i have an aldon ignitor in my herald and its great, but as bill said on a recent thread on the herald message board points are the most simple
method and if the charging system ect isnt up to scratch are more forgiving.
cheers
