Supplier of a good quality fibreglass bonnet

A new job means I either buy another car to replace my daily use MK4 1500 or I do something to lighten her load and help her do a 90 mile round trip using fast roads.

In addition the rust monster has taken up residence big style in the used steel bonnet I fitted last year that cost same as a new fibre glass. Rest of car still needs lots of attention/money spent and add that to the long standing need replace corner valances and I reckon an all round compromise is to go fibreglass front end in one go.

So, wanting to avoid some of the issues previous items on here flag up, can any one suggest a good supplier for a fibreglass bonnet.

Have read article saying there are different styles/types, looks are a factor of course but want one that requires minimal changes to original car (no chopping outriggers etc).

Your thoughts please guys!

PS Had her a year and although she may still look a mess I enjoy driving her too much to get a boring eurobox for work.....

Hi,
You are right, and I am, sometimes companies can take a while to reply to your enquiries tho... and I just want to try and get any personal insight/opinions from those who have possibly found out the hard way!
Have read ealier comments about quality of GRP bonnets too, but sure things must have moved on since they were made...

  If anything, the quality will have declined as the moulds wear out.
  
  There is always teh option of a Hertiage Steel bonnet. Not cheap but no rust!!!
  
  If you are intending to use teh car everyday, just put gaffer tape over the rust holes and get out there and enjoy!!!
  
  A rusty bonnet doesn't stop it going....

    They will make a bonnet to your spec if you ask.
    
    Though you will have to decide whether you want a thin lightweight bonnet for performance or a thick heavy one to keep good shape.

        I have a 1500 spitfire, that i aquired last year and is fitted with a fibreglass bonnet, i think the quality isn't very good aslo apparantly they don't come with the fitment for the rubber cones and this causes the bonnet to flex and make knocking noises, i have foam padding fitted to stop the noise but sometimes the bonnet moves out of alignment with the sills and doors, also the bottom front wing and bonnet are one piece and i don't think it looks right, also you can see flaws in the fibreglass, in my humble opinion i would try and find a good steel bonnet, i haven't seen another fibreglass bonnet to make any comparison.

        You can always cut the rubber cone mounts frm the steel bonnet and then pop rivet / bond with glass fibre to the new GRP one.

        That's what I figured and actually sourced some already cut off...but the Golf that wrote my trusty Spitty off has 'solved' the problem, unfortunately....
