Once properly adjusted there is just a satisfying 'click' when pushing the fibreglass bootlid shut, but they are not mega lightweight.
Of course you can tell mine's fibreglass from miles away (it's the only panel with no rust on it).
Oh, and the concours crowd hate them (another good reason for fitting) Do it !

Seems a perfectly acceptable reason for fitting one.......in Keiths words......."DO IT".........anyone got a Vitesse f/glass bonnet?Honeybourne don't do them anymore...........damned vandals apparently torching the place and knackering up a lot of moulds.-

Normal fibreglass panels are quite heavy so you shouldn't be worried about the weight...
Don't be put off by the racers fibreglass panels, we get them made at 'race weight' (only a single layer of matting rather than the standard three). You can actually see though my bonnet and bootlid
and mine aren't the thinnest I've seen

Fitted a Honeyborne Mouldings bootlid last year. Took LOADS of fettling, as the fixed nuts did not allow you to line-up the lid to the bodywork. It also sits a bit proud of the top panel but otherwise it looks the part and will not rust. Worth the effort so recommend you go for it. I bought my lid direct from Honeyborne Mouldings, but they are also available from Rimmers. Some punters are blaming Rimmers for the fitting problems but it is how they come from the manufacturer. Compared to the cost of a new/replacement metal lid the fibreglass option is cost effective if you have the time & patience to make them fit. Oh, nearly forgot, they don't come with the metal bracket for the support to hold the lid up when open. I drilled this off my old rusty lid and attached it to the fibreglass lid with self tapping screws. You also need to cut the hole for the lock.
