Hi,
I'm looking at buying a MK2 but all I have of it is photos, as yet. I once had a Mk3 whose hood I only had to disconnect at the top of the windscreen, and
push back for it to remain conveniently, if untidily, out of the way. Studying the pix of this Mk2, however, the back of the car looks incredibly neat and
a photo of the open boot shows what looks suspiciously like a hood folded and stowed there! Do you have to get out & unclip the hood & stow it in
the boot every time you want to take it down, and vice versa?
Hmm.......
Kev.

'yes'
I have this on my mk1 spit tub, the hood frame is a large 'u' shape bit of tube, with a smaller 'u' shape which hinges forward towards the front
windscreen to support more of the soft top. When not in use it slots into the boot tucking in over both rear wheel arches.
it fixes to the car by literally slotting the ends of the tube into slightly larger tubes which are welded to the top-inside of the B post (if you put
larger seats in, the seats will hit these welded tubes....)
So.... every time you want to put the soft top up, get the frame out the boot, slot it into the fixed tubes, drape the soft top over the top,
pretension the hoops with the spring loaded swivelly bits, tuck the front rigid bit of the soft top under the front chrome strip on the top of the
windscreen, then secure the rest of the poppers on the soft top, then release the tension from the pretensioning and VOILA!! top is up
Now for a mk 3 (as you said)......lift top up and clip to windscreen VOILA!!
