Homemade Wind Deflector

Posted By : Stephen Pratt, 28-Sep-2006, 02:08pm

Yet another variation on a theme, with thanks to other members ideas - just finished my homemade wind deflector - half a sheet of 4mm Acrylic sheet from Wickes, two small blocks of wood to place behind the headrest supports, some velcro from B&Q, 4 durable dot fasteners from my local factor and a length of old rubber electrical cable for the edging. Mix together with plenty of sweat and a Dremel and hey presto! A cheap and effective wind deflector that cost £25.

What did I learn during the process? Don't use a Dremel to cut acylic sheet! Use the correct size rivets on the dot fasteners or they pull through the backing washers and craze the acrylic sheet!

Tested on the M20 at 80+ very stable and cuts down the backdraft very effectively, by fixing the existing hood cover to the deflector it stops any draughts coming underneath.
