(In response to my last post - I've got the mountings sussed now - cheers).
A new and more pressing issue has appeared! I was about to put my new gearbox (3-rail + J-type o/d) in, and topped up the oil, as a matter of
course.
Having done so, I noticed a very small amount of oil coming out from around a bolt at the bottom of the overdrive (next to the bottom plate). I
tightened this up, which seemed to cure it. I am now noticing a trickle of oil coming (it would seem) from around the input shaft - running down the
inside of the bell-housing.
Bearing in mind that I understand this is a fairly newly reconditioned box (the gaskets are obviously new and it is very clean externally), and the
fact that it took a full litre of oil (*while on its side*), I would assume it is now overfilled, but should oil be flowing from the front like
this?
The oil drip slowed off (consistent with it being overfilled) after a while, but starts again pretty readily if you tip the box forwards.
Is this something to worry about? I rather suspect it is, so have held off putting it in the car, but I can't leave it sitting with the engine jacked
up for ever, so if any of you have any ideas, positive or otherwise, that'd be great - not feeling that pleased at the moment!!!!!!!
RRRRrr.
Sam.

Sam,
It sound like overfilling to me.
From memory, there is NOT an oil seal on the gearbox input shaft.
What there is is a "scroll seal", which only works when the shaft is rotating. It is fitted in the back of the bell housing, and has a spiral cut
into the material so that the oil is forced back into the gearbox as the shaft turns.
Good luck

er, you got how much oil into it???
fill the box when it's in the car, use the fill hole as the level hole as well, I think the capacity might be something like one pint for o/d and
330 ml for non-o/d

Kevin, Jonathan: thanks!
This is what I wanted to hear - all seems much less annoying now (particularly after a couple of beers!).
For anyone else that wants their gearbox overfilled, I'm prepared to offer my services, although you'll have to get it out and lay it on its
side for me first.
Sounds like the filler hole could provide a useful outlet for any excess left in there once I stick it in the car.
Let's hope I can clean that shaft off, and that none gets into the clutch!!
Cheers guys,
Sam the muppet.

DOesn't an empty OD box take over a litre?? I could have sworn I emptied my squeezy bottle at least once filling mine up.

I seem to have a hobby of filling up a single rail/J-type box and this takes over a litre of oil to fill.
