You might be able to counter this with longer wheel studs and spacers but it doesn't say.

Humm, 1" is quite a spacing and I have to confess I'm not a fan of the bolt on spacers - just makes the engineer in me twitch as being wrong in some way (in the "if it looks right, it will fly right" way).
It would open up a massive range of potential wheels though and these do look from the photos to be done well.
Of course if one of the specialists who have started making alloy front hubs made them with more common stud spacing and pushed some CV jointed rear drive shafts with matching stud spacing on the hubs... -

I am also considering this upgrade as a friend of mine has just blown up his MGF and has offered me his 5 spoke 15 inch alloy wheels.
Has anyone out there successfully carried out this mod in a spitfire of GT6? as it looks like wheel arch mods are requried??

I have bought a set of mgf wheels for my gt6 after getting fitting info from another owner who's has 'done it'.
Here's the info:
To get them to fit I had to do the following:
Fit a TSSC rear suspension conversion with adjustable gas shocks (Rotoflex car)
Fit longer studs as specified by Mark @ Jigsaw Racing Services
Fit knut shims to fill out where the studs would rattle round in the wheels - from Mark as above
Fit Wheel spacers to the front (not the rear)
Fit AVO Adjustable shocks on front to get correct ride height. (again from Mark).
The tyres are 185/50s on front and 205/50s on rear - bt whatever they are, they are the sames ones that just came straight off the MGF. There is a little bit of fouling on the bulkhead - but I think if spent enough time fiddling with the AVOs, or put slightly smaller profile tyres on then it would be fine.

I think I will aim at getting mine on ready for the spring.

Mine fitted just fine. No spacers, standard studs. It was a 1500, so earlier cars may have rear arch issues, bu I have seen them fitted on a herald so they may be fine. Mine have the 205/50 tyres at the rear, but 185/55 may be a better choice.
They needed some Wheel conversion washers (escort ones from grayston engineering) and I used herald wheelnuts, but any with a 60degree taper should be fine.

Following on from Clive mail has anyone fitted the 16" MGF wheels on a 1500 spitfire? I know it will be over tyred etc etc but do they fit? Perhaps with 185/55 typres?

Martin, 185/55 are the size for the 15" wheels on a spit, you would need to drop to 50 profile. May still fit, but I think there will be clearance issues.
Looks like you want to be a big wheel tart after all! Are you jealous of my extra inch?
Oh, and I really must change my studs to M12 size, just to be on the safe side.-

Ask Vin I think he has some 16 inch wheels for one of his projects, he bought an upgraded brake pakage which needed huge rims, wonder if he ever fitted them?

m12 studs, mgf nuts
215 40 16 all the way round.
suspension is roto at the rear (which is a narrower rear than a spit),
480lbs springs at the front (therefore wheels don't bounce high enough to hit wheel arches)

ps, haven't fitted the 12" discs and 4 pot callipers yet, still standard gt6 brakes (would only need 15" wheels though for that)

Erm that'll be 281.6mm, I am now 'as one' with my wheels and am ready for next years gymkana, unless I change them again?

I wish I had bid for the brakes instead of letting the cat out of the bag as they would have suited a project I have perfectly (although the mrs put her foot down as well).
If you get round to fitting them put some photos online for the rest of us!!

Will do, was going to get them on this summer, to add to the 'top trumps' them of my car, just need adapter plates for the callipers (made for spit, going on gt6) and the hole in the discs drilling for gt6, probably get done in the summer when on hols.
those brakes and discs are very good, and did get them for very very little in the end - result!
