I have a pair of Webers that came with a load of stuff from a garage sale recently I have been told they are DCOM 40 (DCOE). At present my 1500 that runs
perfectly well with the standard SU carbs that I got from Andrew Turner last year.
Since I at present know less than naff all about what else I need to even mount the things, let alone set them up advice is needed.
Starting at the beginning, should I forget about the things, stick them on Ebay take the dosh and buy something usefull, if so what sort of value are
they.
If they are worth persevering with, I am obviously going to need a manifold, air filters, new throttle cable and modified fuel pipe, are these easily
obtainable and if they are, where from and is there anything else am I likely to need?
At the end do they make much difference against SU's, I gotta say they do look good.
If it turns out I dont bother, anyone interested in a pair of Webers going (relatively) cheap!
Thanks
Ian Fraser

It all depends on what you want to do with your engine (and the rest of the car; little point uprating the engine without uprating the brakes and
suspension).
You only need the Webers if you want to extract maximum possible out of the engine. More modest upgrades can be achieved well within the capacity of
the SUs. And there are quite a few folk who will suggest that in most states of tune, an SU will be more economical in everyday driving than a fixed
jet carb.
There is no single tuning gizmo that will transform the power output of an engine. Uprated carbs are only needed when OTHER upgrades enable the engine
to "breathe" more air/fuel mixture than the existing carbs can handle. So unless you go for a significantly wilder camshaft, decent tubular exhaust
manifold and uprated exhaust system, and a gas-flowed head, all that fitting those Webers will do is increase your fuel consumption.

I agree with everything Chris said, unless you are going to upgrade head/cam/exhaust etc there isn't much point changing to Webers, also you will
need a different pump and fuel regulator. Also if you dont know what they are jetted for it could cost a few quid to get them setup properly.
As for value,i've seen matched pairs in that condition go for anything between £150-£275.
Having said all that this is what i'm putting on my 2.6 Vitesse soon.
Cheers
Steve

Sell them on ebay... you could get £200... but please note, they are DCOM 40s (not DCOE 40s which have different internals). The operation
of them is practically the same as DCOEs but the parts are less easy to get hold of - that's all.
