The oil is contaied in a steel tube fitted into the aluminium piston. Unless there is some serious damage, I do not see how they can leak.
Are you overfilling the dahpots? Provided that you can feel the resistance of the oil when you replace the damper rod just before the plastic cap
reaches the top of the dashpot, then there is sufficient oil. If however you try filling the dashpot to the brim, some of the oil will be displaced as
the air valve / piston rises and will probable be drawn into the engine and burnt. Then when you check after your first journey, the oil will have
dropped about one inch back down to its correct level. Topping back up to the top of the dashpot will just repeat the cycle.
