Posted to general as I still cannot seem to get at the carb section
Can anyone help clear my confusion on the above subject.
The haynes manual that I have states "top up the damper guide to within a quarter of an inch of its rim" however the owners manual states "top up the
damper chambers...level is correct when, utilizing the damper as a dipstick, its threaded plug is 1/4" above the dashpots when resistance is felt".
To my mind these are quite different levels, can anyone tell me what it should be.
Cheers

Paul,
Think about how the dashpot works.
The piston that carries the needle rises as the throttle is opened.
(In the haynes manual the piston is labelled "Air valve")
In effect, this pushes the end of the damper down into the piston tube.
You can see how this happens, if you take the damper rod out and list the piston with your finger in the inlet.
So the oil should be so high above the damper end to make sure that it is always in oil.
So 1/4" above the damper when that is at rest is enough.
Don't forget that when you fill the dashpot, putting the damper back in will displace a lot of oil!
Peer inside before you screw it down.
Hope that helps.
