I've just won this carb on eBay. I have a 1972 manufactured MKIV 1300, which has its original, correct AUD 517F/R carbs. This one is apparently an AUD
580R. I know from Burlen that this is for a 1973 model.
I think the main difference would be the float chamber design - on mine, the fuel comes round the front of the engine, so the rear carb is the "end of the
line". I thought from the 1973 facelift onwards (headrests, reclining seats, long driveshafts, wood dash etc) the fuel came round the back of the engine,
so the rear carb's float chamber would have a through pipe.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Many thanks

All the service parts are the same so any difference should be obvious from the outside. Float chamber lid, as you have mentioned, also look at the
choke and throttle operating bits.
I recommend the SU catalogue and manual from Burlen if they are still available.

Just checked Rimmers' website... The front float chamber lid on mine is the same as the rear one on a 580 (i.e. the one with a through-pipe), but
the 517 rear and 580 front are different parts. The carb I've "won" is supposed to be new old stock, but if you look closely at the photo you'll
see one of the float chamber lid screws is a bit loose... I'm guessing someone has swapped the lids, since the photo looks like a 517R

From my experience with a Spitfire 1500, you have front carb with the correct
float chamber lid.
