Just finished converting my waxstat jets to normal jets on my HS4's, while i was doing it, i decided to completely strip the carbs and clean them up with
gunk and a toothbrush and make everthing all nice and shiney.
Should i be lubricating the moving parts? such as the jet, piston, choke and throttle cams etc?
My guess is i should be, and is WD40 the right stuff? or should i be using grease?
Also, is normal engine oil okay to use in the carb dampening tube?
Thanks

Hi Chris
Engine oil is probably a little too viscous. The dashpots should really have something lighter such as 3-in-1 or similar household oil.
cheers

Thanks Paul.
So, should i be using grease or penetrating oil on the rest of the carbs? in particular the jets and the pistons, as now they are completely dirt
free, they seem to be 'catching' on the body of the carbs more.
And anyone who's done a waxstat conversion. . . . OoooOOOh that little spring!!!!! Grrrrrr!!

The oil you stick in the dashpot is pretty much trial and error depending on your needles/jets and filters. The thinner the oil the faster the
pistons will rise and the more air/fuel goes into the manifold. Using thicker oil (I use engine oil) is quite a good cure for an acceleration
flat spot.
I find that linkages etc get plenty of lubrication from oil thrown around the engine bay - but a little 3 in 1 should be all it needs.
I don't think the pistons and jets should need any lubrication - any lubricant you added would very quickly be washed away by the petrol
anyway. If they do not move absolutely smoothly then something else is wrong - needles not centered? pistons not matched to carb bodies? Dash
pots ditto? Warped carb bodies?
