ram pipes for SU carbs

Posted By : Tarquin Adams, 29-May-2004, 11:54pm

What are the pros and cons of using ram pipes on standard engines with standard carbs (e.g. 1147cc with 1.25" SU's)?

I notice that Quiller are currently advertising them. Do they make a noticebale difference to performance and what are the effects of the lack of air filter? Does anyone have experience of fitting them to an otherwise pretty standard engine?

What about the 3 different designs: bell mouth, short, and long? And gauze?
