Generally I will modify the existing Waxstate carbs by taking out the Waxstate element removing the operating rod (the jet normally sits on this) and
drilling a hole through the base to take a flate head 4BA bolt for the jet to sit on. The bolt sits on the top of the element with a large washer
between the bolt head and the element. The thread end which is sticking through the base of the Waxstate element is held in place with a lock nut. I
also fit a spacer inside if the Waxstat element to prevent the 4BA bolt compressing it up.
However, where I have found the jets are worn out I have used the conversion.
I guess if you are reconditioning the carbs then I would fit the conversion.
As interest the conversion kits are produced by the supplier of SU parts and are therefore totally reliable and not a bodge.
