Indicators - correct way round?

I've just been having a poke around the image folder Craig has made, and I've noticed that there seems to be a variation in the way the front indicators are put on.

Does anybody know which orientation is correct?

The one in the pic is the wrong way round. In this position the indicators cannot be seen by traffic approaching from the side (not that the right way round is thats much better, but it is a bit).

    I'm sure that the sidelight is supposed to sit outside the indicator. In law, the sidelight must be within a certain distance from the edge of the car to mark its full width at night. This distance is fairly small, but I can't remember exactly what. You might want to check with Mike Crewes if you are thinking of reversing them.

      Hi,
      You can just see from this sales brochure cover for the 1500, that the sidelight was originally to the outside of the car. I agree, it would seem safer to have them the other way round.

        Mine are on the wrong way around...
        
        Mk3s have the indicators on the inside too...
        
        However 4's and Mk2s don't...

        Now we're all agreed, I'm going to say that when this has been discussed before, the outcome was that it seems that they came out of the factory both ways round.

        Given 70's quality control, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they didn't come out of the factory both ways round on the same car from time to time.

      I've got them the 'wrong' way round too. It seemed to make more sense to have them this way around as the indicator is more clearly visible from the side of the car. The lens mounding is actually aimed slightly the other way, but I dont think it makes an awful lot of difference. It's certainly never been a problem for the MOT - its passed 4 MOT's like this.
      
      Oh and before anyone points this out, yes - I know my O/S light is crooked, this bugs me too!!! It's on the jobs to do list!

  Makes sense but I'm pretty sure they came out the factory with the indicators on the inside (like in the picture)...I guess no-one had thought of side repeaters back in the day...
