Has anyone got any helpful hints on why the front indicators fail to operate when the headlights are on?
I always create more problems than the one I'm trying to sove when it comes to electrics!

Sounds like you have earthing problems at the front. Check connecter with black wires near side in front of radiator. You should look inside bullet
connecter for rust etc.
