Hi all,
I am hoping that someone can help me with the following.
I have a spit 1500 that i believe was restored in the early 90's, I have been trying to sort the door gaps on the near side (eventually after 5 years). The
problem is that there seems to be a lot of flex in the body i.e slight pressure on top of the B post results in the gap at the top of the door closing up.
This also happens on the off side, but not to the same extent.
There is NO rust in the sills or floor, in fact the whole car is very sound.
My concern is that there are no inner strengtheners in the sills.
My questions:-
1) Is there any way that i can check this?
2) Is there any way that i can open up the gap between the A and B posts without major surgery?

1. IF sills had been welded as per the factory, you might be able to see 3 thicknesses of metal at the top and bottom seams. However, I would not want
to guarantee exactly how the edges would have been finished. The only surefire way would be to find (or drill) an inspection hole (best in the face of
the inner sill) and pass a rod or pencil inside and have a prod around. Measure how far the rod will enter the hole before hitting metal and compare
that with the outside distance between inner and outer sills. Best done at the top of the sill where distances are greater.

I would have serious concerns that the body flex's by that amount! Another way to check whether strengthener's have been fitted is to remove the inner
sill carpet and have a look. You should see a plate between the inner and outer sill. Even if they are it does not mean they have been properly welded
into place. A job for a professional I suspect if you want to be sure!
