Door Gap

Posted By : Kenny Gunthorpe, 07-Jan-2007, 03:25pm

I am about to fit new sills to a Spitfire MkIV. due to the door gap closing up the door nearly touching rear wing. Some one has fitted new outer sills at some point. The problem i have is, can not get the correct door gap of aprox 787mm. Have tried to jack up chassis by putting a piece of timber in the middle and jacking up after putting car level on axle stands. But when i do this the door gap opens ok but only to about 780mm by this time the car has rise of rear axle stands leaving it in a very dangerous condition.I wonder what am i doing wrong. I wonder could some advise me of the correct way to restore correct gap if i am dong this the wrong way . Thanks
