I am about to fit new sills to a Spitfire MkIV. due to the door gap closing up the door nearly touching rear wing. Some one has fitted new outer sills at
some point. The problem i have is, can not get the correct door gap of aprox 787mm. Have tried to jack up chassis by putting a piece of timber in the
middle and jacking up after putting car level on axle stands. But when i do this the door gap opens ok but only to about 780mm by this time the car has
rise of rear axle stands leaving it in a very dangerous condition.I wonder what am i doing wrong. I wonder could some advise me of the correct way to
restore correct gap if i am dong this the wrong way . Thanks

You need to be jacking the top of the door gap apart, with all 3 sill parts removed.
Then you need to wedge the top of the screen frame away from the rear deck, I think.
Cheers

Kenny, I think there is a tool you can use that spreads the door gap from the upper edge, I have seen it somewhere (may be on club shop). It is
supposed to bolt on the body where the upper edge of the door would be. I seem to recall it having a screw thread adjuster in the middle.

Thanks Steve and Colin Think i know what you both are getting at. If i cut of complete sill as. jack up chassis and put in door brace. It will be
easier to set door gap as part of old sill could be still holding on. Making it harder for me jack in to right position Kenny
