Hi All. Can anyone help me.
I baught a accident damaged spit. The chassis had extensive damage to the o/s/f. corner. It was also quite badly bent. The impact had ripped off the front
corner suspension unit damaging the bulkhead/floor and door 'A' post. I have got another chassis. Blasted repaired and painted. I have lifted the tub off
the old chassis. When I came to price up new panels everyone tells me the bulkhead and 'A' post are no longer available even though they all still have the
illustration in there catalogue. Does anyone know where I can get theese panels as I am now up sh*t creek.

Hi Stephen,
you should be able to source second hand panels from a tub that has been taken off a parts car; there will be plenty of these about. As a first port of
call try people like Richard at the Spitfire Graveyard or the guys at Spitbitz. Also have a look on ebay as there is usually a spitfire advertised that
is only good for bits. If you find an A post that has rusted I think you can still get the lower repair sections. As long as you're not looking for a
concours car this should do the trick.
I'm sure lots of other members will be able to point you to other sources of used panels.

Hi Alistair.
Thanks for the advice. I think I may have cocked up slightly as I took the doors off before lifting the tub off the chassis. To be honest I dont
think anything has moved much. Although the o/side sill and bulkhead are quite badly bent both sides are very solid. The car has been dry stored
previously for aprox, 5 years. The sills are original, as are the wheel arches and floors etc. So hopefully no harm done.
Wiil keep you posted.
Thanks.

Your best bet is parts cut from a scrap tub.
A number of the Triumph Breakers should be able to help you out.
I may know a couple of people with tubs for chopping up if required.

Thanks Colin.
Looks like my only option. My only worry is keeping the tubs shape when the bulkhead/ A post/ floor & sill are cut out. I have a fresh chassis
so I think the best option is to bolt the tub to that before I start cutting. Max from Totally Triumph near Warrington is calling today with some
advice. He says he can cut out what I need from a tub he has. Only problem is it wont be cheap as this renders his tub scrap.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Stephen,
You may be able to track down old stock Stanpart panels if you hunt around - I've had both of the panels you need pass through my hands in recent
years, but nothing at the moment. Mick Dolphin deals only in original parts, while Chic Doig also seems able to unearth some pretty obscure parts, both
would be worth speaking to.
Cheers,
Bill.

Hi everyone.
I would just like to thank you all for youre help and advice and let you know where I am up to.
In the end I heard of a 76 Spit for sale locally. Had a look at it. Not bad, the tub is sound as is the bonnet, so I bought it. £500.
Thats cheaper than it would cost to repair the other tub. Now i have two spitfires I will have quite a lot of spare for sale when I have finished.
Apart from the shell I will have a full car to get rid of.
If you need anything give me a shout.
