Hello all.
Looking at buying an Earlex HVLP Spray Station. Contacted Earlex to ask about suitability of system for spraying cars (as they advertise this on their
marketing blurb). The company stated that they had tested the system on car bodywork, and they achieved a good finish. As these systems are cheap, and easy
to get hold of through Machine Mart, and even Argos, has anyone tried them out? Don't really want to buy a compressor, as I have limited storage space, and
the smaller/lighter HVLP system would come in handy for other jobs around the house & garden. Thanks to all those who answered a similar thread
regarding HVLP spray guns in 2004.

Hi Tony
I've have a similar m/c which I've used for localised repairs and it works very well, it's ideal for better control of the paint when spraying the edge
of the wheel arch as an example. It's great for spraying fence panels etc. a panel can be covered in 3 minutes without forcing the paint through the
slats and onto anything on your neighbours side.
When I sprayed the car initially, I used a 50 litre capacity compressor and a good quality gun and this would be my recommendation if you were going to
spray the complete car, even if you hired the compressor and purchased a good quality gun.
It's easier to get a more even spread of paint with a compressor fired gun and you don't have to thin the paint excessively.

There's no comparison for home spraying. I'm a convert to HVLP. I sprayed the unberside of the Herald bodytub through an absolute fog of Triumph white,
everything in the garage and for half a mile outside was covered in white dust. I have a collection of little rings on my shelves where things used to
sit - you know how it looks. Anyway my brother (who has a smaller workshop completely filled with Series 3 Landrover and too many vital work-related
objects to risk overspraying) needed to spray said off-roader so I bought him a Bambi HVLP system for around £130 through the ads in
Practical Classics. It's brilliant. No overspray at all and the paint goes on exactly where you point it. I think Bambi has a website (Bambi Air?) but
in any case the ads are in PC and well worth a try.
