You need a minimum 13 amp output,though for welding overspec it or it will cut out and overheat.However for bodywork you will need to turn the power on
the welder right down,as such it will not need as many amps from the gennie.130 migs need 13 amps,280's need 28 amp feed,thats the correlation.
Save yourself the cost of a gennie and hire oxy/acet?

This doesn't really help you much but I was just looking at that very same welder in halfords this aternoon. I've never welded before, but have been
considering trying to learn. Is it a machine you're happy with and would you recomend it to others (particularly a beginner)?
As far as your question was concerned if it's a 130 amp welder running on 240V then as a first guess you'll need at least a 3120W generator (power=current*voltage), might not be exactly the right answer but it should give you an idea.

If I read your post correctly, then the calculation isnt quite that simple for a welder. And you missed off a "0" anyway
although I may have misunderstood your point.
current x voltage is correct however you need to multiply the output current of the welder (130) by the output voltage (which I don't know) rather than the input voltage (240).
For reference, my 130 amp welder will run from a 13amp supply for all but the highest power rating which needs (according to the instructions) a 16A supply.
13 x 240 = 3120
16 x 240 = 3840
Having said all that, I rarely need to use the welder on those power levels. (and never on the top one as I don't have a 16A supply in my garage)-

Sorry added a 0 by mistake, 13A not 130A.
I thought it would no doubt be more complicated than that but, I thought I'd have a stab at a guess.
However when you change the voltage/current using a transformer (which I assume it does) then they both alter to keep thge power the same (if you assume 100% efficiency) so if the output current is 130 then the output voltage wil be 24 (or more realistically a bit lower).
Either way you are putting an input power of 3120W from mains so presumably the generator needs to match this.
Having said that, I'm basing all this on A level physics rather than any practical experience so please someone tell me I'm talking rubbish if I am.

I borrowed a migmate 105 turbo 2 months ago to learn to weld and i have done hundreds of practice welds to get used to the machine and i was getting the hang of it, then
i returned the machine and bought the 130 migmate it was like night and day the welds
were far superior, i highly reccomend it, i also bit the bullet and bought this 3kva generator on ebay
for &163;155.00 bid for it at 2pm and it was delivered 9am the next day, fantastic service, anyway the genny and welder are working great together, thanks to all who replied.
