Does anyone have this origional option?. If yes, is there an on / off switch for the map light?. May sound like a stupid question, but thing gets real hot
after a few mins.
Thanks.
Paul.

It should switch off automatically when you fold it up against the underside of the dash.
The contact is made by a ball bearing on a metal track and when you fold the light away, the ball runs onto a plastic part and insulates itself,
therefore switching off the light.
That's the theory anyway. Very clever except that the plastic bit breaks off and then the light is jammed on all the time.
Mine was like that (I just disconnected it) until I got a better map light from a donor car. Maybe it is possible to fix the plastic insulator with the
careful use of some glue. Anybody done this?

Hi Mik,
Well, I guess that answers the question. I did notice some plastic bits hanging out the joint on the light!!.
Thanks.

Maybe it can be fixed. Try taking it off the car (the top just goes through the panel above and has a nut on it) and have a look. If it's not
working anyway, I guess you can't make it much worse.
Maybe you could glue the plastic back in place or replace it with some other insulator? I was about to attempt this route on mine when I bought
the other car to get various useful bits from (working overdrive, new seats, various trim including window winders and that map light) so I
never got that far.
By the way, the "deluxe pack" was fitted by default to the later 1500s so they're not as rare as being on the options list might suggest.
If all else fails, I still have my old map light in the garage somewhere. It might be better (or worse) than yours. Of course you could always
just fit a (period style) switch somewhere appropriate. Depends how concerned you are about originality.
