My Spitfire 1500 emits a sharp knock whenever the right rear wheel hits a sharp ridge/pothole, it only happens on the right hand side, not the left. I have
put the car up on axle stands and checked all the mountings which seem sound, The spring and rear diff were replaced 3 years ago (by the previous owner) as
was the UJ. Has anyone experienced this problem,I intend the strip down the rear suspension this winter but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would suspect a faulty shock absorber. Is there any sign of oil leakage from it? Also if you grab hold of the wheelarch and forcefully pull it up and
down can you hear a knock? If it is the shocker don't forget to always replace both sides.

Thanks Phil
I'll have a close look at the shock absorber this week

Phil - Just to let you know you were right! I replaced the rear shox with a pair sourced from Jigsaw Racing through Ebay - a couple of old
stock Boge Automatics for only £10 the pair! - I removed the 5 year old Woodheads and put the new Boge units on, and the
difference is unbelievable, not only has the sharp knock gone (having tested them against some known potholes!) but the ride has also improved.
The difference in pressure required to compress the new units by hand was considerable compared to the old units.
Thanks again for the advice -
