Had some "interesting "recent experiece relating to upgrading Mk 3 spit to swingspring...James/Nig/Karl Dandridge have previously been very patient and
kind giving me upgrade info (found that previous spring had cracked fittings and car hopped). So got conversion kit and looked to get it fitted. My
Triumph-friendly garage chappie retired for personal reasons, so booked into another garage to do the conversion (he has experience of old MG's).
Anyhow, fits swingspring and I drive off. Go round a sharpish bend and back end cuts away!!! Checked bag of bits he gave me and found lower plate,
unfitted. Spoke to him and he said that it didn't fit.... he had tried it under all the leaves and, naturally, the studs were not long enough...also said
he hadn't fitted/seen spacer-tube when I showed him pic...so that wasn't fitted either. Guy is straight/honest and said he didn't really feel confident to
give it another go.
So off to other garage (who had been recommended). Gave me his opinion that swingsprings "not safe/handling would be worse" etc Pointed out that it was
fitted as standard to many spits.
Back to drawing board BUT found another garage owner who was great (drives own Triumph/club member has had super work done by him...Spit's booked in in 2
weeks. He did raise an interesting point...(just in case you all wonder where's she going with all of this!!!!!!) as he said that "such mods may hike up my
insurance. What's your experiences?

Hi Jackie,
This will be considered a modification for insurance purposes, so your insurer will need to be informed. Footman James at least are very accomodating
with mix and match Triumphs. When I notified them of the 13/60 engine in one of my Heradl 1200s, there was no change in premium. The engine was from
another sub-type of the same car, the premium would have been the same for the larger engined model. I suspect the same would apply to a Spitifre
fitted with suspension designed for a later variant of the same car.
But let them know, they can decide if it's important or not.
Cheers,
Bill.

Hey Jackie,
Many moons ago I used to insure my race car with them... (Class A), I gave them a full list of every single little modification including no passenger
seat and roll bar etc... and they hiked my insurance up a mighty &163;20 to cover it

.... yes, twenty pounds (incase you think
I missed out a zero)
