They look the mutt's nuts, and i can't help thinking of all the sixties racers that had them fitted, if they are no worse in the actual braking
department, why shouldn't you pay out for them if that appeals to you.
Calvin.
Just a thought, have a chat with doctor Vin, he can offer a full seminar on items which look good but offer no real improvement in function over less
aesthetic items. I think they call it bling.

if its as well proforming as the origional, but looks bling/shiny then its worth having, if its better than origional AND looks bling/shiny then
its a must have item, my simple logic

Actually, they should reduce unsprung weight, which is usually deemed to be advantageous?

Unlikely to brake any better. Alfin etc were designed before disc brakes became common, and were designed to dissipate heat better and
therefore be less prone to brake fade. Probably made an improvement, but nowhere near as big an improvement in that department as disc brakes.
Unless you use your brakes VERY hard (in racing for example), you probably won't notice any difference (or any difference over a NEW standard
drum), nor will the reduction in unprung weight be readily noticeable (wire wheels or alloys will do rather more), but if you want a period
look then it's up to you. BTW, were genuine Alfin drums ever available in the 60s for Spitfires etc?

Actually Wire Wheels can be considerably heavier than steels or alloy wheels.

Calvin,
Dr Vin, is in.
those drums, yep, they look good, but I wonder if a rear diskbrake conversion could be cobbled together for around the same price? Brake pads make
the shiny discs stay shiny and maintenance free - see?
i could write a seminar based on going to stafford and finding that i need to replace my steering rack, track rod ends, and waterpump.
Including the fact that it has taken me two days so far, so i've thoroughly cleaned them and they are now hanging in my garage .....waiting for the
yellow paint to thoroughly dry before fitting them.
I am Vin, I am shallow AND fickle....

God Bless you Dr Vin,
You make me feel deep and interesting on so many levels,
none of which matter in the scheme of things,
You are Vin, You are yellow!
