I've just replaced a very leaky pinnion seal on My MkII Spitfire. The Flange nut was finger loose (and split-pinned so). After replacing the seal - I
torqued up to the recommended setting, but now the diff is pretty stiff (if you get my driff).
My question is - was the flange nut deliberately loose to compensate for some kind of wear, and should I slacken this off again?
Any advise / knowledge greatfully recieved. Ta.

A good differential is supposed to be stiff... in fact, if you hold both output flanges and turn them together in the same direction you should find it
quite difficult.

Thanks Nigel. You are right there, I have tried turning the output flanges - and I can't manage to budge them. But with one person on each road
wheel we can just manage turning with applied effort. It just suprised me a little that so much effort was required, perhaps the new pinion seal
needs to run in a bit. Thanks again for your knowledge.
Cheers,
Roger
