Is my diff on its way out?

Posted By : Damian Pearson, 29-Jul-2004, 05:46pm

Hi all.

I wonder if someone could help with my 1500 spitfire. I am getting concerned about my diff and think it could be on it's way out altho I am a total novice when it comes to cars engineering but I am an enthusiastic amateur.

The problem is a loud knock when I pull away from junctions, the noise happens a split second after the wheels start turning and just seems to happen in first.

I also seem to have a slit oil leek from the diff but every time I try top up the oil it seems full as it just spills back out. I looked at my hanes manual and the diagram of a diff in their dose not match mine for example I do not seem to have a dran plug?

If I am not making sense or talking rubbish Try not to laugh to much and just humour me.

Thank you very much for any help anyone can give and sorry for the long post.

Cheers
