    I bought the car less than two years ago, and joined the club then so will not have the article.
    If you can find out the change over numbers that would be helpful.

      I have had a look and the gearbox number is "ATT4487". I know it is a 3 rail because reverse is next to 1st, but I still do not know if it is a 3 or 4 synchro gearbox.

  If it's just the 3-rail/single-rail question you want to answer, then I believe the question is:
  
  Where's reverse?
  
  I believe reverse on the 3-rail box is over on the far left. On the single rail box, it's over on the far right.
  
  From memory you push down and left on the 3-rail, pull up and right on the single.

  I think what you first need to do is establish what the serial number is on the gearbox (actually what the prefix letters to the serial number are!). Then looking at the above link and in conjunction with the good old trusty Haynes manual (Chapter 6) you should be able to work out if you have a 3 synchro or 4 synchro gearbox and as per previous post's - a 3 rail or single rail gearbox. (Well - I think I know what I'm on about!! even if I've confused the rest of ya!!)
