Hi all,
I've now fitted the new gearbox&overdrive, wired it all up
(some major guess work going on there!)
but seems to be okay
so now it comes to whacking some oil into it...
Is it just a case of opening up the gearbox filler/level plug, pouring some oil in until it starts coming back out? ; obviously i really don't want to
overfill and mess up my clutch but also i want to know i've got enough in so i don't damage it...
Any pointers?
Also should i replace the oil after the first 500/1000 miles?
Again all help apprechiated!

Just fill it up till the oil level is level with the bottom of the filler hole. Remember to check that the car is level!!!
As for changing the oil, I don't know but I'd change it after 100-200 just in case there are a few spliters floating around...

cool... thanks,
does the oil flow reasonably freely into the overdrive, or should i fill it a bit, then wait for it to settle to whatever level, then fill a bit
more, then wait e.t.c?

Hi there
The oil can take a short while to flow into the Overdrive - I found the best method was to fill up the box and leave overnight, then top up
again - I put an extra half litre of oil in doing this.

Fill it up to the level, I use Penrite Gearbox Oil 30, Drive round the block and engage overdrive, this ensures the oil is everywhere it
needs to be.
Top it up again to the level and job done.
The drain plug should have a big magnet on it so this will catch any floating particles, and the overdrive has a couple of filters of its'
own. I don't think changing it after any short interval will achieve much, esp as it's much more difficult to refill with all the tunnel
etc back on.

The oil does go in quite slowly and will take some time to find it's correct level. I'd certainly leave it a couple of hours after I thoufgt it was
full to see if it settled. You shouldn't nee to change the oil again quickly...but it rather depends on what you've been doing to the box whilst it's
been empty.
