Hi, my MkII Spitfire develops a nasty vibration at speeds above 45 mph. I understand it is probably the propshaft in need of a balance....does anyone know
where I can get this done in Kent?? Any idea what is involved and any other suggestions.

Hi Mathew, I've just started to use my GT6 again after a 3 year storage stint. (I also own a Spitfire 1500) and I am experiencing exactly the same
problem above 45mph. I've owned Triumphs for about 15 years and have never come across this. As I have recently changed the rotoflex on the rear of the
car I am assuming that the Driveshaft is out of balance by 180. I thought I would try rotating my propshaft by 180 at the gearbox end to see if this
would work. Possibly worth a try or even new UJ's may be the answer. Good Luck
Regards

I had a problem with my prop on a GT6 when I bought it last year. A DIY solution suggested to me to balance it was to fit a weighty hose-clip
at one end of the prop. Jack the back end up, put it in 4th and see if the vibration continues - after that it's trial and error until the
vibes go. You can put 2 clips with a strip of metal between. This may work if it's not too bad, (if the noise goes after you've picked more
speed up) but my prop was knackered and I had to replace it (£100 for a brand new one!!!). If you can find someone to rebalance -
ask local mechanics - expect to pay £30. They will weld lumps of metal on, somewhat more precisely!
good luck
