Birkett Relay Race 2006

Posted By : Andy Vowell, 20-Oct-2006, 06:00pm

The motorsport section has been a bit lacking in action of late, but all is not lost as the next outing is just on the horizon. On the 28th of October at Silverstone there is the annual Birkett 6 hour relay race. For 2006 the top 2005 Triumph team the Sports Six Pack returns with its original line up driven by a mix of past and present champions to take on last years Triumph runners up the Spitfire Squadron who have had a reshuffle pulling four new members from the reserve bench to try and break the Six Pack supremacy

Line ups as they stand today are

Sports Six Pack Team Manager Angela Francis
Jon Wolfe GT6 (TR Champion)
Dave Thompson GT6 (TSSC Champion)
Steve Adams Spit Mk3
Andy Vowell Spit Mk3
Martin Stackpoole Spit Mk4
Nigel Gibbins Spit Mk4

Spitfire Squadron Team Manager John Davis
Richard King Spit 1500
John Yarnell Spit 1500
Simon Congdon Spit 1500
Mik Davis Spit 1500 (TSSC Class A Champion)
Clive Gimson GT6
Martyn Adams TR7V8

On first sight the Squadron have a total cubic capacity advantage of 1800cc but the Birkett handicap system will equal things out leaving driver skill and car reliability to take the spoils.

The race runs from 1100hrs to 1700hrs with action on the track from a huge mix of cars with teams of Austin Sevens to Radical Prosports and further action in the garages as teams keep their tired end of season cars running for this final blast.
