All,
I've just had my copy of Motorsport Now! (yawn), Rule Change Special. This promulgates changes to O 1.1.5 ("Reckless driving") and O 2.6.2 (To concentrate
on bad behaviour out of the driving seat). Not that those will be of concern to anyone here, of course.
But the really interesting thing I got from reading these again was to find next to them:
Reg O 2.1 which specificly allows the BTCC "to vary the judicial procedures in respect of driving offences contrary to General Regs E 5.1.8 (A driver must
drive at all times in a manner compatible with general safety......), O 1.1.5 ("Reckless or dangerous driving") and O 1.1.6 ("Careless driving").
and
Reg O 2.1.2 that BTCC regs supercede MSA regs!
That explains why Plato et all in the BTCC get away with their disgraceful bevaviour. They are not playing to our rules, but to their own. We knew that,
but not that they had special exemptions to do so. NOT a good idea, IMHO.
The only other changes of interest I found in the new Regs were:
Probably only of interest to me: E 12.13.1, pipes within the passenger compartment must be joined by swaged-end tubes, if they are used with screwed hose
clips. But I was going to do that anyway!
and
Q 10.13.1 Helmet standards. It appears that FIA8860-2004 and Snell SA2000 will not be withdrawn at the end of 2005 as previously published, but Snell SA95
IS withdrawn. Snell SA2005 is the new standard.
Gentlemen! Check your helmets!
John
