TR Register/TSSC Sprint Hillclimb Championship

I am forever amazed at the seeming lack of interest from fellow TSSC members towards the TR Register/TSSC Sprint Hillclimb Championship.

A friendly bunch of competitors, always welcoming to new faces; a varied selection of venues throughout the UK; a scoring system fair to all; far less committment and cost compared with the race series; a competition that lasts throughout the day with at least 4 runs. What more can one want?

Clive G, Hugh M, Andy V, Larry J-C and various others have experienced the series and I am sure would vouch for the plus-points I've mentioned.

I won the championship in 2002 and it's time for someone else to put the TSSC cars on the map. Pen Davies in a rapid 2.5 litre GT6 is going very well this year, nearly always winning the class on scratch.

Patrick, I would like to follow up your offer of information about 2005 Sprint/Hillclimb

I have a 2.5PI spifire/gt6 hybrid, full rollcage no screen, harnesses and fuel extiguishers, road legal, taxed and soon to be tested again.

the race folk think my car is a little too left field to want me to come play with them (can't think why), but the car is built to play with.

If the sprint/'climb regs won't rule me out I would like to hear from you.

      Just to clarify my comment re TSSC members being invited to take part in the TR Register / TSSC Sprint / Hillclimb Championship - The TR Register invite TSSC members with their cars to compete but we have to join the TR Register as well - no big deal really in the great scheme of things!
      
      There are 3 levels of mods allowed, from the almost standard via road modified to almost anything goes and then it is by engine capacity within those mod levels. Each of these sub-classes has a bogie time to go against, to arrive at your eeventual points score at each event. Sounds complicated but it isn't really, and it is very fair as if you do really well one year and set new bogies at all the venues and possibly win the championship (as I was lucky enough to do), you have messed up your chances for the next few years - so honours seem to get shared around.
      
      I will happily post up the programme for next year in due course and my E Mail address should now be in my profile if anyone wants more info.

        The competition is open to TSSC members, but only if they join the TR Register? Doesn't that kinda equate to the series only being open to TR Register members?
        
        We've just ironed out that particular problem in the racing... as the TSSC is an MSA affiliated club the race drivers can now compete under their TSSC membership and do not need to be members of the TR Register. Can this not be extended to the Sprint and Hillclimb championship too?

        I agree that would be the way to go, but as very few TSSC type cars have come out to play since we were invited to join in other than as invitees (i.e. not able to win awards etc.), it is difficult to apply pressure for that change. I hope in time TSSC cars will come out in greater numbers, and then at the annual drivers meeting, such a proposal could be made and hopefully carried.
        
        Having said all that, it is in my view a great series to take part in and cost of TR Register membership is minimal compared with the costs of a season competing. They do great reports on the race and hillclimbs championships in the monthly mag to boot.
        
        To be honest, in my case I am a TR owner and TR Register member anyway, so it is not an issue that had really occurred to me!

Remember, the pricely sum of &163;12 gets you entered (plus TR Register membership). I would very much like to see TSSC cars outnumber TR's as in the race series.   If you want to try this car of yours against ours then we have arranged a special race at Lydden which has a class for hybrids such as yours. If you have a license and want to see if you CAN actually beat Andy, John or Paul... then please get in touch with me and I'll send you out an entry form.
  
  And a note to everyone else out there who may be interested. If you have a MSA 'blue book' spec triumph (safety regs) and a National B race license and fancy your chances then drop me a line and I'll send you the necessary. Entry fee will be &163;135 for your first race of the day and &163;80 for the second, (&194;&163;30 for the third) if you have the energy.
  
  The classes are:
  
  A - Triumph cars upto 2.3 litres on road tyres
  B - Triumph cars over 2.3 litres on road tyres
  C - All steel bodied Triumphs on road tyres
  D - Triumph based specials on road tyres or slicks (includes non triumph engines)

Patrick, I have to admit that I wasn't even aware that there was a Sprint/Hillclimb championship. Is there a calender of events? I felt sure there would be something going on as I've seen TR's charging up the hills. Is anyone yet running one of those plastic GT6 bodies? Where can I get more info please?

If you read the backposts, you will see that this Forum was renamed "Motorsport" from 'Racing' precisely because of the other disciplines. But the info or news won't appear unless the participants put it there!
PLEASE post the 2005 Sprint/Hillclimb programme, or better send it to Craig and ask him to put it on an appropriate page of the Club website, so the programme doesn't sink out of sight. And tell us more as the season progresses - can't be much left now for 2004.

I can recommend hillclimb, if only becuase I have Barbon, near Kirkby Lonsdale, just up the road from me. While it must be the shortest hillclimb around, it is on the British hillclimb championship, is a barrel of fun to compete or marshall, and is in breathtakingly beautiful country. As my Vitesse seems to be fit for three laps only, perhaps it is trying to tell me something.

Patrick et al.

I wasn't aware that this was a TR Register/TSSC combined event as Hugh always spoke of it as a TR Register event only. Some racers were invited to compete as at the time we had to be members of the TR Register in order to race and therefor it was a logical and reasonable suggestion to extend the invitation to TSSC racers.

The TSSC is an MSA affiliated club and as such if the invite is now open to TSSC members (as an invited club) then there is no reason why any member reading this thread cannot get in touch with you and compete. I would encourage anyone thinking of having a go to get intouch with Patrick and get out there.

And Patrick, if you can supply me with a calendar for next years season, results and a brief report (even pics) then I will include iot in my monthly Courier article. That's the best way to generate interest afterall. Drop me a line.
