When I had my test the GP did my eyetest which included a field of vision test. He basically 'wiggled' a pen while moving it into my view and I told him when I could see it.
The eyetest they were looking for then was simply to ensure I wasn't visually impared at all - they are not supposed to be offering you a prescription. It's just like the one in your driving test - unless they've changed that too
You need to speak to Sheila Barter at the MSA, she is the Medical Co-ordinator and her number is 01753 765000 (switchboard). She isn't in today
but should be in on Monday.

yeah, the wiggled pen test was what I was expecting too. The MSA notes do contain a very specific definition of what's expected and the optician I have spoken to said this was a particular driving thing and needs certain equipment.
I don't know what a normal driving test contains. The only vision test I had for my road driving test was the "can you read that number plate two car lengths away" one.
Anyway, I have now found an optician that is able to do this test. But I have to wait another week for the appointment

Hello,
My optician has started doing a field test when I have a check-up - they must have just got the equipment... thought you might be interested to know what it's about if you haven't seen it before:
You have to look into a contraption that's like a computer monitor and stare at a dot in the middle - it puts up random wiggly patterns around the screen and you click a button to show you've seen them. It assesses your peripheral vision when you're done... The test seems to be coming more common now anyway.
