  Which cam are you using there Josh?
  
  It's very interesting to know those numbers, as 100BHP at the wheels is about where our class A cars are.

    I thought class A was umodified? a standard 1500 Spit with 100 bhp at the wheels?
    
    I'm confused??? (doesn't take much though)

      after what Nig said about class A horsepower i got thinking so..
      just got back from some more testing, not really setting up as such but just doing dyno runs with 3 different needle sizes
      
      leanest needle - AAL - run was aborted because it was obvious it was pants
      
      richest needle - ABY - 97.75@6000 (a bit less than last time)
      
      in between (goldilocks was right).- AAM - 110.24@6300
      
      power still drops off after this with the limited air supplied by twin SU's
      time to see what power can be made from a pair of twin 40's

      My standard 1500 is putting out about 110 BHP @ 5700 rpm on the rollers using twin 1 1/2" SU's, couldn't tell you what needles etc. I'm using as the rolling road man does all that, so I never need touch the carbs once they're set up. I'm not sure if that's an 'at the wheels' figure or a calculated 'at the flywheel' figure (most likely the latter) but as I always use the same rolling road it's differences in power between sessions I'm looking for, not to compare it against other cars - that happens on the track.
      
      The modified cars make more power than this, but in addition they rev much higher, much quicker making them a fair bit faster. Although this year the Class A cars have been able to keep pace (although not quite beat) some of the slower class C cars.

        cheers for the info Rich,when i first posted the msg i didnt realise class A cam specs were free. we are currently making similar power on Su's which is interesting to know. what cam do you run?
        mine is a TH7

          I started racing with a TH7 cam, really good to drive and very flexible. I only changed to a 264 because the TH7 runs out of breath high up on the rev range. Have got it fitted in a spare short engine now which I used at the end of last year when my prime race engine blew. The TH7 felt really torquey compared to the 264. Amazing how big the diffence felt.
