From where I was sitting (about 2 metres away) that was far from the perfect drift!! Though maybe a collection of about ten smaller ones.... Clean overalls by Birkett.....

Shame it didn't show the fleeing hordes on the pit wall !

Nigel, I wasn't there but I have reliable information that, yes, one person didn't flee and was deemed remarkably brave. The underground grapevine strongly suggests (nay, insists) he had a prior injury and was unable to flee!

...or indeed an underwear changing moment!

Never mind 3 pairs - it was a 4 pair day for me.

In qualifying John spun right infront of me at Quarry.

In the race Stackey lost a wheel and careered across the track infront of me, Simon Congdon lunged past and spun off and finally John did a repeat performance of last year.

All in all I spent the entire day avoiding errant race cars.

Well done Dave, must be worth a few more champ points for car avoidance skills

Nah Simon, no extra points for avoidance skills, you beat me fare and square on speed on the day and that's what counts. Oh and with regard to "must remember to brake..." Tadzio Nuvolari had no great respect for brakes as he said "they only slow you down"

We are talking 'style' here (see top of thread), and Nuvolari was a style epitome, so let's also mention "C'etait un rendez-vous", Lelouche's classic short film (Go to Google Video if you haven't seen it) that is also style-on-a-stick. The anonymous driver is said to have not used the brakes at all in the film (no, it wasn't Nuvolari).

In another Triumph place, you posted a link to the exposee, which I've just watched.
If your French was good enough, you'd have heard him admit how he dubbed the sound of the Ferrari after filming.
Also, I am very familiar with the roads he followed, and even today, it is an easilly achieveable drive in a normal car, in the time if done at about 5am - it was a very circuitous route, and his average speed was only 41mph. Time can easilly be gained up Avenue Foch, its very long (about 1 mile) - I've driven it at over 80MPH in the past, and don't forget one has priority when arriving at Place de L'Etoile. The Champs Elysees can also be driven very fast, and again it is very long (1.25 miles), and again priority on arrival at Place de la Concorde. Rue Royale, Boulevard de Capucines, Boulevard de Clichy are also very fast, as is Rue Caulaincourt.

I once heard that it was Gilles Villeneuve, but other names have also been mentioned (some foreign guys). Accidentally drove through Paris this year, the average speed in rush hour seemed to be about 60 mph, they're loons.... makes racing seem easy after that!

I lived just outside Paris for 5 years. Driving around the City was a bit daunting for a couple of weeks, but one soon became aclimatised and after a few months I was totally at home in the fast moving traffic. I don't think a single day went by when I didn't drive through a red light, or on the wrong side of the road to get round something. Even one way streets were occasionally taken the wrong way. The real danger came from visitors who were not acustomed to the Parisian driving style, and got in the way. Great place to live, send me back !

Yes, I posted on the CT 10CR forum, because 'Rendez-vous Revisited' would be (IMHO) made for a item on a future 10CR event. Unlike the Monaco GP circuit that many wanted to drive on last year's 10CR, and could not because of the one-way system, it seemed so easy for Lelouch and his young friend to drive the original route today - they even segued between the modern and original films. Your familiarity with the Paris road system confirms that.

The aged director keeps strictly to the speed limit (I think) although he could not resist overtaking some stationary cars on the wrong side of a traffic bollard!
And, No, Kevin, my French is far below the standard required to pick up his admission about the sound track.
I was able to hear him enthuse that the light, as they arrived at the Rendezvous, was exactly the same as before. Certainly it was a wonderful city view. "Earth has not anything to show more fair"? London eat your heart out! Although Wordsworth was writing of an early morning view too.

But David, dubbed sound doesn't make it a 'fake', does it? If you're telling me that it's speeded up, like the old London to Brighton train journey film, then I'll be really sad.
