Make that 1 Spit, sadly I pulled my entry today will save my cash for a better populated race.
Guy, put the 16th September in your diary for Racing at Castle Combe where there is likly to be a better entry.

Andy,
I was looking at Castle Combe entry this morning and noticed the section on noise - it said there will be 93dB drive by limit. I got flagged-out of a track day at Donington late last year for exceeding 98dB and that was with the exra silencer I had to fit at Combe to race last year. Being a Yokel do you know if they enforce 93dB drive-by?
If so, there's no point in me entering.

Just had a phone call from BARC this morning to say that as we only have four entries, we've been amalgamated with the sports and saloons race. I don't have the paperwork to hand so I'm not sure what their entry looks like. -

I think they do enforce their drive by, though best to check with them. I have it in my mind that the local council also take readings and are very strict on the circuit because they are being constantly barraged by people who moved into houses next to the track, then complain about the noise.

six people to be exact... that how many letters of complaint have been recieved by the local councillor that resulted in BTCC, GT and F3 effectively being banned from the circuit... one of the major complaints was from the local vicar who complained about racing happening on a Sunday as this should be a day of rest!!!-

At the recent National Championship Wiscomb Park hill climb meeting, the local vicar had a whip round on the Sunday for church restoration fund. He was very pleased to announce that he raise nearly &163;400 in 2 hours! Guess they won't be getting any complaints from that quarter!

My understanding (from talking to locals at a Top Hat series event earlier in the year) that the problem is with 11 recent local residents who have made all the complaints, even though CC has spent a lot of money introducing noise screening for the disputed area. This has resulted in stricter noise restrictions and the end of open exhaust racing series at CC and subsequent loss of revenues. We now live in a world where minorities and single issue lobby groups get to enforce their views on the "silent" majority. ENd of rant......-

This problem at CC goes back years. I hired the circuit about 25 years ago and noise was one of the major worries even then. What I don't understand is that the circuit has been there from before WW2 so you'd think that these eejuts might well have noticed a big f&163;&194;&163;k off racing circuit when viewing there prospective purchase.
I guess it's the same as the neighbours we used to have who moved in and then complained about the owner driver who kept his lorry at the garage behind and had done so for 20 years. He wound up his business and retired rather than fight the council. One complaint can be enough never mind 11-

Yeah, I live in Dorset, and we regularly get "incomers" buying houses locally and then complaining, at parish council meetings and the like, about Church bells/cockerels/tractors/muck spreading (delete as necessary). It's the country for God's sake!! Thing is, people take them seriously!-

Couldn't agree more. When my wife ran a livery yard, someone complained about eh smell of the muck heap and "it is attracting flies!" Thankfully that one went no further but it rally does make you wonder. I think that part of the problem is the cost of rural housing meaning that only wealthy incomers can afford the new barn conversion or whatever. They get their idea of rural life from Emmerdale and Hello magazine and and then seem rather shocked that people actually earn their living in the country rather than it being a giant unchanging theme park.
There feel much better now. Excuse me while I climb off my hobby horse. Going for a lie down now.
BTW, is this now as off topic as it is possible to get?-

Just got back from Pembrey, had a great weekend. Merged races meant we got to race against a couple of full works ex-BTCC cars and a bunch of radical prosports amongst other things. Actually "got to race against" is probably not the best term - "got overtaken a lot by" would probably be nearer the mark. All good fun though. And well done to Martyn Adams on recording an overall TR/TSSC win
