This was my first ever track day, so I was a little nervous before hand and not quite sure what to expect. Having looked at
the advance weather forcasts, plus not having a rollbar, I did get the hardtopback onto my Spit - thinking it does give a
little more protection.
As Vin said, it was a glorious weather, nice and sunny (after a frosty start) for the whole day. Except for the snow shower
mid afternoon! Oh, and the biting wind - not great when standing around the paddock admiring all the other superb cars!
So what was it like? All I can say is BRILL! It was laid back, informal, but all coming across as very well organised. We
(the drivers) were all given a basic briefing on the key and then just let loose in our group. These were split into 3:
novices, fast road and serious road/race. I was expecting, having never done an event before to be in the first group, but
did get placed in the fast road. This was actually the largest of the groups, with around 20 cars in it, making it all a
tad more exciting round the track. Defintely one to ensure you watched your mirrors!
The excitment of being able to just push the car on a good road surface to (most!) of its limits was rather fun. Starting
to feel the back almost break out, but not quite was good experience for the real highway, so I can ensure I do not get
that far! Just for this was worthwhile.
For those actually driving, it was fun seeing and hearing the other cars hurtle round the track. Hearing some of the V8's
of the TR7s and tuned V6's of some of the TR6 (just to mention a few) was gripped stuff. And so many of them too. The one
thing I did not do was go out in one of the other cars, to see how it was from the passenger side - or may I have got a
little scared? As I know going round the large long bend out from pits, it was certainly throwing you to the left with some
G force!
Things from the day:
- tyres _do_ melt slightly under high stress. In my case, the front left, as the circuit has mainly left corners.
- Ensure you have _loads_ of petrol (full tank) before you start, as forget any idea of normal fuel ecomony/readings! I am
really not sure how it was going (down), apart from fast! (Still fun thou

- Exhausts really can give flames out the back, not just in the films. Notably round the hairpin, as people braked hard
down into it, then started to throttle again part way in.
- Other Triumph drivers are all good fun. I got to meet loads of others, finding out more about some of their cars and even
my own. I know know why there is a 'M' on the bonnet catches. Also great to get help on what may be wrong with you car - in
my case the water pump failing. Sorry for the smoke for those behind me. Just VERY pleased the marshalls spotted this, so I
could get sorted rather than break down on thew way home.
Would I go again? Yes. Just need to get the water pump sorted as I mentioned. Oh and get to see some more pictures from the
day - Kevin's ones DO look great!
