Righto...
Do I need to modify my manifold gasket so as the metal doesnt get in the way?
With a standard head the gasket has about 1.5mm of space between the port and the gasket - presumably because the gasket squashes and the hole reduces
slightly.
However the holes in my ported head are just ever so slightly bigger than the holes in the gasket.
Am I making sense?
(the photo doesnt mean anything - I just thought it looked cool)

To get the best perfomance from the porting the gasket needs to be out the way, Two choices
1. Cut/file/dremel the holes bigger
2. Buy a 1500 gasket that has bigger holes
Cheers

Andy,
Think I'll have to dremel them bigger then - as the gasket I have is a 1500 one...

Surely the 1500 and 1300 gaskets are the same size? The post FH25000 MkIV engine uses the same gasket as the 1500, the only difference I am aware
of between this and the earlier engine is the recessed bore, the gasket is modified accordingly. To achieve 1493cc the 1296 engine was stroked,
bore remained constant,
Cheers,
Bill.

Well now I'm not so sure. I do know that there are gaskets out there that are different sizes as in my early racing days I opened out the holes
but now when I go round shows to get up a good supply of gaskets (needed for racing) I have found some types to be bigger which I had assumed
to be 1500's.
Perhaps its down to different manufacturers

I think James was meaning the manifold gasket rather than the head gasket

Wish I could have been there chaps, would loved to have seen Mik dressed sensibly! Trouble is my house is going on the market and I've a s**t load of
painting and other stuff to do.
Now Jimmy - is that really your port? How long did it taken and what did you use. Also what's the opinion of the racers about trimming/tapering off the
guide for better flow?
Tins of paint beckoning...

Donny,
That really is my port - and it took me all of 3 minutes to write the cheque for it.
Now that I posses a ported head I think I might have a go at it myself - use this one as a guide to do another one. I plan on making as many
measurements etc as possible and then trying to copy it on a spare head.
You're welcome to come around and have a look at my head - though it will be on the car pretty soon.
Anyone know how similar is the GT6 head to the Spitfire one? Is it just extended by 2 cylinders?
After being in Tim Bancrofts GT6 with stage 2 head I reckon its a must have...
