Making a good gearbox, the bits.... have I got this right?

Right ok have I got this right, I use the gears from a GT6, put them in a 3 rail Spitfire box, and use a single rail 20 spline input shaft? Is that right? Does it all fit together ok?

Or have I got this a**e over t*t

You are right Josh, however, you can't use a GT6 input shaft as it is too long and I'm not sure if you have to machine one down or using the MkIV input shaft will work?

Be sure you are using a matched laygear cluster as the GT6 MkI/Vitesse MkI is different to the later ones (different angle on the teeth).

  Thanks Nig, so I stuff my GT6 gears in my 3 rail housing. This next bit is the one that confuses me... I get the input shaft from my single rail box and plonk that in? Give it a good shake and hey presto??? Will the single rail 20 spline input shaft fit straight on to the GT6 gears?
