After three weeks of forced abstention, i have finally driven my Bond again.
We seem to have fixed the oil leak, (sump off and new alloy sealing block, front engine plate changed over for new second hand one)
and we have fixed the cooling issue by fitting a thermostat that works!!
However, we played with the wheel alignment and lost the self cancelling indicators, they just stay on all the time when switched on, having left them on
for so long today, is it possible that i have burnt out the flasher unit?
cheers Calvin.
Ps all other lights working appropriately.

the cancelling is purely a mechanic cam on the column that knocks the switch off when the wheel is returned .
this cam is a sprung clip fitted at the top of the column and should align with the small probes that protrude from the
switch mechanism, so that approx 1/4 turn will knock back the switch to off.. nothing to do with the flasher relay or any
other electrical circuit..
if youve played around with the front end alignment you may just have the column and cam well out of its straight ahead
position. (the sprung cam locates in a dimple in the inner column.. )
look in the manual for the location to fit a pin in the rack to lock it central, take off the hand wheel to view the cam and set the column and cam
to 12 oclock, put long bit of straight wood against the tyre to see that both wheels are at least parallel to the sills,(square to the car)then
tape measure the 'toe in' keeping the front wheels square to the car,, you dont need lasers to get the basics in place.. just some thoughts

sorry Peter and Mick, my question differed from the one you think i asked, i grew up with non cancelling indicators on a citroen GSA, and it
really is of little import to me, (thanks anyway for the advice), i am more concerned by the lack of indicator flash, it just stays on when i
turn left or right, i am assuming it is the flasher unit and nothing more sinister, but am i right?
cheers Calvin

I would think that this is just the flasher unit, although it might be a bad earth.

Hi.. Calvin I had for a Long time some of the clockwork cancelling switches by wipac,, thats progress ,,,,I have the same view as Mark
but could be also down to some excess load in the circuit as less load flashes quicker more load flashes slower
too much load and no flash just' on 'so make sure earths are not back feeding via the headlamps or something silly
obviously a quick change of the unit is the simplest remedy... i think peter

Or a blown buld can cause funny things to happen. But reckon flasher unit most likely suspect. Go to the club meeting and pinch
somebody elses when they are not looking. (Or ask to borrow it) or just buy a new one, though they tend to be pants these days.

I ended up buying an electronic one from Halfords for peanuts. God knows what car it was meant for but all I had to do was
supply it with an earth and it ticks away happily whether all the lights etc are on or if the revs drop to almost nothing.
That, and a solid state voltage stabiliser, has been the easiest upgrade I've done!
