Calvin,
How can I put this?
You are in deep sh*t.
Is that 'caring' enough?
DVLA quote "You will be liable for the vehicle until you have notified DVLA of the scrapping or sale of your vehicle".
But you cannot now document the scrapping, unless the number plate, swinging in the wind, is evidence.
So unless you can retrieve the parts, or substitute parts, re-asemble them and THEN scrap it, you are fated to linger in SORN purgatory for the
rest of your life.
Or in this case, as the DVLA is the residence of the motoring undead, for ALL TIME.
A sort of Flying Dutchman, fated to attend Stafford every year, a grey presence haunting the autojumble in the search for the parts of your
Herald.
Women will calm their children in their camp site tents, as they ask, "Who is that strange man?" by sitting them on their knee and telling them,
"He is the Heraldman - if you don't shut up and go to sleep he'll come and get you!" Triumpheros will huddle in the bar, as moans of
"Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorn" echo around that lonely barn that will forever be your un-resting place.
Oh, Calvin! A sad and sorry fate!
John

Not me John, honest, this is a hypothetical situation remember, my"friend" might have to do the Stafford thing though, and he is mortified at
the thought,
Calvin
PS, having listened to bull s**t from some people who know not how much it actually affects lives, it's nice to read some from such an
accomplished bull s*****r as yourself, John I salute you,
and so does my "friend".

I say!, John a trifle dramatic there, have you ben re-reading the classics lately?
perhaps there should be some element from "The Rime of the Ancient Trumpeteer" by Standard Triumph Coleridge
something about "with my cross-bow I shot the Herald, boss"
day after day, day after day
we stuck, nor breath nor motion
as idle as a painted skip
upon a painted ocean
four times fifty living men
(and I heard nor sight nor groan)
with a heavy thump, the lifeless lump
unbolted one by one
alone, alone, all all alone
alone on a wide wide seat
and never a mate took pity on my
sorn in agony

What evidence of scrapping does the DVLA require? Or is this ANOTHER task that is far too dangerous for mortals to undertake?
The DVLA should be made aware of the true situation as (IIRC) an inspector can theoretically ask to see a vehicle to check that it IS stored at
the declared location.
As for the original posting, one might (theoretically) wish to be careful about declaring what other vehicle some of these components now
inhabit lest there be questions asked about its/their true identity.

Surely you just need to fill out the V5c saying the car has been scrapped, and put it in the post.
Or am I missing something???
I tend to keep the V5's if I have kept enough bits of the car to put it back together someday, so having never thrown any bits away, I have
a couple of V5's in the drawer.
Cheers
Colin
