Anyone take the 'Autocar'?

Over on the TR Register MsB, there is a thread pointing out an item in the "Autocar". Apparently, there is a BMW project for a two seat sportscar based on the MINI floorpan, described as "the Triumph roadster proposal" and as a "slightly shrunken, semi retro TR4". A sketch is included in the article, but I don't get Autocar, the item doesn't appear on their website and all I can get for "BMW TR4" on Google is a range of radio-controlled models.

If you are registered there, go to the TRR MsB (http://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/index.php?show...) but don't get too excited, another contributor says,"one of my chums in Germany rang me last night to tell me I shouldn't miss it. Evidently the best laugh he's had for ages. Something to do with the Bavarian equivalent of 'April Fool', or as he put it they "swallowed the hook, line and stinker" - intentional 't', our German friends do have a sense of humour, albeit dry on occasion!!"

Update from the TRR site:
Graham Robson has confirmed from his contacts at BMW that this is true. He is told that the car will be aimed squarely at the US market, which of course took a large proportion of the original TR output.

Well, as we all know the subject of a New Triumph pops up every now and again. I guess only time will tell if there is any substance in these rumours. As far as I can see BMW have used the New Mini to fill a gap in their existing range with a car which will sells. Would a Triumph model fill a gap in their existing range?

Changing the subject, when are we likely to see an MG from China?

CHanging it back again, GR claims that BMW's logic is that they have a sports car derivative from all their saloon cars' floor pans, except the MINI. Indeed, this is most likely to be a styling exercise and public opinion kite. The response in general seems to be 'yugh'!
