Warning: Your Flip Flops Could Kill You
Wearing trendy flip flops could kill you, according to new research.The fashionable footwear - ideal for the beach in hot weather - are putting the lives of road users at risk.Three in every four motorists have admitted they find it hard to drive in flip flops and road safety experts have warned that wearing the sandals in the car could be a lethal decision.

Researchers claim a flip flop, worn by millions, can easily get stuck under the pedals and cause a fatal accident, The Sun says.

Craig Martin, spokesman for Norwich Union who carried out the poll, told the newspaper: "Footwear such as flip flops are dangerous as the sole can get caught under a pedal.

"The absence of ankle support can lead to the foot slipping off the pedal altogether."

Leigh Purves, gossip columnist for the Daily Star, is among those to have had a close call while driving with designer flip flops.

She has told how, while travelling on the M1, her sandal got stuck under the brake pedal and she missed another car "by millimetres".

The Sun also says that German researchers revealed last year that 14 out of 25 pairs of flip flops they studied contained toxic chemicals known to lower sperm count in men and attack the liver, kidneys and reproductive organs.

Agree about 'flip flops', but I drove through France this summer in trekking sandals, (in an modern car) with no probs. Cool in the temperature sense,and practical.

This makes me think... is it illegal to drive with bare feet, I think i was told it was once?

Also I was told when younger, bein' a cont're boy, that driving in Wellies is illegal too... I can understand that one.

All good sense about the KILLER FLIP FLOPS, but have you heard about the killer Coke bottle. That's the one that was sitting in the cup holder of my other car (the adult size one) which fell out and forward under evasive braking, on lifting my foot the bottle (until then unnoticed) decided that under the brake pedal was a good place to hide!!!
Getting Coke out of the carpets is not good. Cleaning your remains off a tree is worse!

Yea thats happened to me before on the motorway. I had to kick it to one side and then lean down and pick it out from under the clutch pedal.

My Moral: Don't leave a bottle lying on your lap.

While travelling on family holiday in dad's Austin Cambridge, he had to do an emergency stop. The full (glass) coke bottle flew off the rear parcel shelf, whistled between my brother and I on the rear bench, passed between Mum and Dad in the front, and took out the radio. Coke bottle intact, Dad turned and advised the two of us not to open that one for a while!
