Bored with Blue?

Posted By : Craig Gingell, 08-Jan-2005, 08:48pm

This message is predominantly aimed at any budding web developers with CSS skills and time on their hands, but please read on...

I've been making a few changes to the way the website is rendered, and I've moved much of the presentation to CSS. The CSS is a linked file, but with some jiggery pokery, there's no reason why the CSS file has to reside on the TSSC server. This means that anyone can provide their own CSS for rendering the TSSC website.

(I got the idea for this from another project I've been working on recently)

To give you some ideas of what's possible here's some examples -

Bored of Blue - how about Green -
http://www.tssc.org.uk/theme.asp?http://www.tssc.o...
(this is currently broken)

Want to try some mouse rollover effects for the left and right menus -
http://www.tssc.org.uk/theme.asp?http://www.tssc.o...
(this is currently broken)

James Carruthers didn't much like the fonts I'm using, so provided his own -
http://www.tssc.org.uk/theme.asp?http://www.mintyl...

Anyone who wants to write their own CSS for the site can find the default CSS here -
http://www.tssc.org.uk/css/style.css

Right now you have to host the CSS file yourself (this may change) append the URL of your CSS file like so -
http://www.tssc.org.uk/theme.asp?

I envisage that we could end up with a library of website "skins" or "themes" that anyone can then specify as part of their member profile (and no this wasn't the only reason we created profiles)

Comments, questions, ideas and suggestions welcome.

Craig
