  Isnt it funny how none of them had a bad word to say about triumphs apart from the 7?! Why dont they convert?!

    I think at the end of the day, the modern MG enthusiast is a different breed than the old MG enthusiast.
    
    Nowadays, there is no rivalry between triumph and MG (obviously, as there is no triumph to speak of), and MG are now owned by rover, who used to own BL who owned triumph. MG is fighting a loosing battle in keeping its head above water and people just dont want to see the end of british motorcars, be it MG or Triumph.
    
    I think it's good that at the end of the day, modern MG owners can look back at these classics and admit the triumphs were a far nicer looking car, and ponder what a modern version might look like.

      I'm with Nigel regarding the GT6 Mk4. Just look at how many sports coupes are around at the moment, Christ, even Bentley have one!
      
      I would have thought that a new BMW Spitfire should have the Mini engine and the GT6 the straight 6; some historical continuity there. Think about it though, could BMW use a name like the Spitfire?
      
      Just remember, should BMW use the Triumph name the majority of us will probably think negatively about it. So, what do we want: Triumph name to eventually die with our cars or the Triumph name resurected to become true sporting car legends again?
      
      Now the thing is, where can we find out who the key players are that are the decision makers about expanding their car range; the Mini is a great success (whether you like it or not) and it may not take much to expand on this to re-create the Triumph name. A nice bit of pressure upon BMW might work.

  I would go for the modern Triumph to have a lovely meaty straight six engine... they are a lot nicer than the V8 brute. After all there are only two V8s in the triumph stable and lots of straight sixes... yum!

    I don't know how they can suggest a V8 in a Triumph...
    
    It _has_ to be a straight 6... and we all know who makes a nice straight 6... BMW oh yesh... a bit of M power in there would do nicely thank you sir...

        Well BMW own the name... no reason why it cant be a Triumph brand - Im just saying they have an engine ready to go in there... they do still make the straight 6 M? I think....
        
        So itll be called a Triumph Spitfire - just itll have an M powerplant... 300bhp... hmmm...
        
        Actually thinking about it - thats a bit too much for a Spitfire - I think if they were to make one it would be a cut price... aimed at MX5 owners...

          I was under the impression that the BMW straight six was an evolution of the triumph design... maybe someone can clarify.?
          
          As for a spitfire 'Roadster'... I think we ought to leave that abboration to your deepest nightmare - it's a truly awful design (the roadster) and the M4 is one of the few 'upgrade' models I've come across that is worse than the original ^-). Handles like a pig yuk yuk yuk!
          
          I think the GT6 Mk4 should be our goal... but we can use the BMW engine - there's nowt wrong with that.... .. But I want to see round headlights

            Not just the owners either. About 5 yeears ago, when I first had my stage 2 2500S Estate, I dropped in to the local MG/Rover Dealers to see if any service items were still available. Pimpley youth on service desk said "Triumph? Nah we don't do bikes bits". Old boy behind him overheard and asked if I had the car there and came out to look at it.
            He then went in and dragged the younger sales staff outside as well. As we all stood round the 2500S in attitudes of respectful worship, the old storeman said:
            " There you are, like I told you, that's what they're trying to make for us now!" (The Rover 75 Estate had just been released) at the time.

          The new BMW M5 which will be coming out soon has a big V10 under the bonnet (not sure what capacity, its related to the F1 engine though) with 508 bhp... that ought to make a spit size car go fairly well
