  On the subject of MGB's - The other day an MGB owner said to me "All Spitfires are rot boxes" not like MGs. When I pointed out that you can buy a new body shell for an MGB, but not for a Spitfire and no company would go to the expence of making a body shell if they were not going to sell them the chap went very quite.
  
  I have heard this remark a number of times from MG owners about Spitfires and Triumphs in general
  which in my view is some what of a misconception as most 1960/70 cars did and will rot. I would say Triumphs and MG are very much on a par as far as rot goes.

      Well at the Knebworth show on Sunday I bought some seatbelts at a stall, and the guy wanted to know what they were going in. I said Triumph saloon, and he started saying how lovely he thought Triumphs were, and then went even further maintaining that they don't seem to rot like other classics! He specifically referred to Spits.
      
      Ok, maybe we're just good at hiding the rusty ones away , but for a man who ran a decent sized stall at an autojumble he must see a lot of classics and it's surely a complement to Triumph owners.

        Hmm- Sounds like he may have been playing the long term game thinking you will now come back to his stall another day and buy more stuff.

        Most of the 1960/70 cars rotted, some came with rot already built in at no extra cost!

  Indeed - but at least they are somewhat useful - portable rubbish...
  
  The Spitfire name is used for that dodgy coil lead that makes extra sparks - only thing is does is wear out your plugs quicker... now that is an *actual* piece of rubbish.
