  I dropped a line to the guiy selling the TR6 in case he had missed a zero off the price, the reply I got back is -
  
  I am selling this car for £1000 including delivery anywhere in UK. I think this is a low price. The only reason is that i need cash for a family emergency. I have to tell you that I'm currently out of town with some major problems so pick up/view isn't an option. If you want to buy this vehicle email me back with your full name and address to start the official procedure trough eBay. They will send you a notification with ALL the info regarding delivery, purchase protection and refund policy so please provide your details before more questions. You will find 90% of answers in that notification from eBay!
  
  So ypou can't view or pick up the car even if you buy it!!!

    the basic rule with e-bay is that if it seems to good to be true IT IS!

    Thats exactly the same email he sent me regarding another TR6 last week had a different user id though

    It seems one rule of ebay is that neither vendor, bidder or purchaser needs to reveal contact details until the auction or purchase is over. Even email addresses can be kept confidential. Anyone requiring such contact details prior to actual payment, immediately sounds suspicious to me.
    Just occasionally there are bargains to be had, and sometimes things that look dodgy are simply mistakes made by the vendor, not fully familiar with processes or less than articulate in descriptions. Shame that this is a minority and you can rarely tell the honest bargain from a scam.
    As a general rule, I've always taken the willingness of the vendor to answer questions is always a good starting point.

      The tell tales are easy to spot - stupid price for a buy it now, nil feedback seller or brand new seller, stupid spelling mistakes poor english and a hardluck story with the classic you can't see the car theme.
      If it were real and he really did need money he's phone up a dealer and sell it OR put it on eBay with a 3 day auction and bend over backwards to get you to see the car.
      These auctions are just bait - it's fun to respond and ask them sill questions - like "Does this Aston model have the ejector seats fitted?" you get some equally good responses like "No but I am sure you can get them fitted at the dealer once you have the car"

        In the case of the Aston, the car clearly doesn't exist. There is a picture, but that is it. And the description clearly shows that the guy has never touched an Aston in his life. Tow bar? 2 services? Aston V8's only requires their first service after 12 months. And the price is obviously ridiculous. This is nonsense!
        
        The TR6 however, is more realistic. He describes real faults, overdrive's etc. He even has the balls to mention Worcester Classic Cars, who are specialists in Triumph TR's. And the other thing is that there are 12 photos which clearly relate to a single car, on the same drive. In fact, I ran the number plate through a database and it relates to 1971 Triumph TR6. He played this scam well. Certainly ringing Worcester Classics tomorrow to find out some more!

          There is currently a Daimler Dart up for auction on ebay (item 130133835317) in Belgium which also purports to be for sale at dealer Grundy Mack (www.grundymack.com) in North Yorkshire.

            I saw both the Fiat and Mini go on eBay (very genuinely) last week both at their market values - a lot! And these are exactly the same pictures!
            
            The last however, is a fantastic example - lots of description, silly price, good photos, brand new eBayer, but he made a mistake putting a link to you tube, which was put up by the real owner who sold the car legitimately last week on eBay.
            
            As I'm on Summer Holiday, have nothing to do other than tinker with my GT6, I'm calling eBay up to ensure this is sorted. There are hundreds of spoofs just like this, and obviously done by one or two con men. It has to be sorted and I'm sure there innocent people out there being caught out by this! The only thing is, eBay makes money on every advert (quite a bit actually) so may be reluctant to deal with it. I'm sure if they don't, the press will find it very entertaining!

              3 different ebay identities as sellers, but all registered on the same day! And Exeter is now in Dorset!
              
              Not sure quite what the scam is with these pre-approved auctions, especially when you see the level of some of the bids rejected. Is it trying to find the market level for the car? There was an amazing example of that a few weeks ago with an (apparently genuine) Daimler V8-250 saloon (the rare manual one) with 2700 miles from new.

              (item no 260129296225) with bids regularly being rejected, and suspiciously, some complaints about being unable to contact the seller, presumably to get preapproved. Just look at the bidding history and the level they reached! On the night of the auction, bids had reached, an apparently genuine, £80,100 an hour before close. Work then intervened so I could not follow it further, but it seems all bids were then rejected in the last hour and the car did not sell.

              I am mindful of the number of times I have written "apparently" above, so perhaps it was a scam, but it all seems very strange. If it is a genuine car, then someone has got a real bargain.

                Having noticed the price, I strolled over and read the entire advert... and only then noticed what was going on! What a let down!
                The only thing is, with this case there is a big chance that the true owner of the car is a member of the TSSC. Anyone recognise it?
                
                And also, if anyone recognises this GT6 (JTT778E), let me know as I spotted it in Kensington last week and was rather impressed!
